I have developed a website that displays rotating photographs. Each photograph that is part of the rotation is stored in an array. All photographs are pre-loaded. On a LAN connection, the site works well; however, when I viewed the site via a 56K modem connection, the entire page took approximately 1 or 2 minutes to load.
To resolve this issue, should I place a “placeholder” photograph on the website at the location where the rotating photographs will be placed? This placeholder would not be preloaded. This way, the user would see one photograph on the site while the rest of the images are being preloaded.
Thank you for your suggestions.
